How reflective practice is valued in professional environments
This video makes connections between reflective practice and the twenty-first century workplace, emphasising, as Assoc Prof Marina Harvey does, the importance of reflective practice to on-going professional development. In this module we hear the views of leaders across a number of professions. Raelene Seales and Dace Elletson draw a relationship between reflective practice and, what Dace refers to as a ‘growth mindset’. Dr Bob Fonseca, Head of Paediatrics Department, King George Hosptial brings up an important issue, that while reflective practice is generally not taught in medical school, and indeed in many professional schools and faculties, it is a skill that is required when working in a complex organisation such as a hospital. Rosemary Hamill and Belinda Walker emphasise the need to be able to understand professional problems from multiple perspectives.
The reflective practitioner has the means to analyse events and dynamics and, crucially, to learn and to grow professionally.
